Tandy bitterly disappointed by Springboks drubbing
Wales head coach Steve Tandy said he was "bitterly disappointed" after his side were beaten 43-0 by South Africa in Durban, ending the Nations Championship season without scoring a single point. The result means Wales have now conceded 116 points without reply across their last two meetings with the world champions, following a 73-0 defeat in November, raising further questions about the team's progress under Tandy.
South Africa scored seven tries through Jasper Wiese, Cobus Reinach, Jesse Kriel, Jaco Williams, Herschel Jantjies, Kurt-Lee Arendse and Paul de Villiers, though the margin was less severe than the record 73-0 home defeat Wales suffered in the autumn. Tandy praised his players' effort and defensive resilience but admitted Wales failed to convert scoring opportunities, including several penalties, against a physically dominant Springboks side. Captain Dewi Lake said he was "massively proud" of the squad despite the scoreline, insisting there had been genuine improvement compared with the November meeting.
