Russia launched one of its heaviest ballistic missile and drone attacks of the war on Ukrainian cities, killing at least eight people and wounding dozens, in strikes that hit Kyiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia and Sumy. President Volodymyr Zelensky called the assault on the capital "one of the most massive ballistic attacks" since Russia's full-scale invasion began in 2022, as the exchange of long-range strikes between the two sides continues to escalate.

Kyiv's air defences shot down 18 of 41 missiles and intercepted 108 drones, though residential and commercial buildings, including a supermarket and dormitory, were damaged. Kharkiv suffered the deadliest single incident, with four men killed at a postal terminal, while separately five people died when a Turkish-owned grain ship was hit in the Black Sea. Ukraine responded by striking three Russian oil tankers, a pipeline terminal and three oil depots in Stavropol region, and earlier drone strikes on Wildberries warehouses in Russia killed eight people. Zelensky said Russia had fired around 1,450 drones, over 1,640 guided bombs and 99 missiles against Ukraine in the past week alone.
