The United States military has carried out a 10th consecutive night of air strikes against Iran, part of an escalating campaign aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz to shipping. The renewed action followed the death of another American service member and retaliatory Iranian attacks on US allies Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain, home to the US Navy's 5th Fleet, raising fears of a return to all-out war even as diplomatic contacts continued through Pakistan as a mediator.

US Central Command said the strikes targeted Iranian command centres, air defences, coastal surveillance sites, missile and drone launch facilities and communications networks, with Iranian officials reporting attacks on 95 locations across 12 cities over the past 10 days. Two American soldiers were confirmed killed in Jordan, with a third missing, alongside another death in Iraq during the disposal of a downed Iranian drone; President Trump warned Iran would "pay many times over" for further losses. The conflict has also disrupted global energy markets, with Brent crude trading above $88 a barrel and US petrol reaching around $4 a gallon, while Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen threatened to block Saudi shipping through the Red Sea, an alternative route to the blocked strait.
