Prime Video has ordered an eight-episode RoboCop television series, filling the gap left by its recently cancelled Stargate reboot with another established sci-fi franchise. The move brings Alex Murphy's story to the small screen for the first time, nearly 40 years after Paul Verhoeven's 1987 original launched the franchise across sequels, cartoons, comics and video games, and follows a broader industry trend of reviving well-known properties as prestige television.

The series is being made by Blumhouse Atomic Monster, with Peter Ocko (Lodge 49, Pushing Daisies) writing and serving as showrunner and executive producer. James Wan, Michael Clear and Rob Hackett will executive produce alongside Ed Neumeier, co-creator and co-writer of the original film, lending the project direct ties to the source material.
