Nickson, who is expected to leave Newcastle this summer despite interest from relegated West Ham United, will join Wrexham in a newly-created role in September, working closely with manager Phil Parkinson.

Nickson spent 15 years at Newcastle, playing a key role in major transfers including Joelinton's £40m move from Hoffenheim, Bruno Guimaraes' arrival from Lyon, and the club-record signing of Miguel Almiron, earning praise from Eddie Howe and Amanda Staveley. His precise duties at Wrexham have not been confirmed but are expected to cover transfer activity and wider football operations. The move comes after Wrexham secured three successive promotions under Parkinson and narrowly missed the Championship play-offs last season, finishing seventh; they open their new campaign against Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup on 7 August and begin their Championship season at Cardiff City on 17 August.
