The tributes matter as a reminder of Osbourne's status as one of heavy metal's founding figures, and of how the band came together one final time shortly before his passing.

Osbourne died on 22 July 2025 at the age of 76, following a period of ill health, but had still managed to perform at the "Back to the Beginning" concert in Birmingham just 17 days earlier, both in a solo set and reunited with Black Sabbath's original lineup. Ward wrote on X of the "persistent silence" left by his absence, Butler shared his gratitude on Instagram for having done "the final show" together, and Iommi posted a lengthy message recalling their weekly calls and declaring "there will never be another Ozzy."
