Alex Bowman has announced that he plans to retire from full-time NASCAR Cup Series competition after the 2027 season. The decision gives clarity to his previously uncertain future and marks a planned endpoint for Hendrick Motorsports’ No. 48 driver.

Bowman has signed a one-year contract extension with Hendrick Motorsports to remain with the team through 2027. He will continue driving the No. 48 Chevrolet Camaro before stepping away from full-time racing at the end of that season.
