A new anime, Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO, was announced at San Diego Comic-Con and is scheduled for 2027. It marks a fresh timeline for the long-running franchise, shifting the setting to a post-apocalyptic future after Earth is made uninhabitable, while continuing Gundam’s expansion across film and television.

The series will be directed by Kenji Kamiyama, known for Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim. Its story begins 45 years after an interstellar force devastates Earth, with survivors living on the Moon and other colonies; protagonist Azumi Ray pilots the “anti-apocalypse” Gundam ZERO mobile suit.
