PSN Down But Slowly Recovering After Amazon Web Services Outage

Push Square · 4 hours ago

PlayStation Network suffered a widespread outage, disrupting online features, the PlayStation Store, game downloads, friends lists, trophies and some digital licence checks. The disruption appears linked to problems at Amazon Web Services, which supports parts of PSN, and highlights users’ reliance on online infrastructure for access to digital games and services.

Reports came from several regions, including the US and UK, while Sony’s status page initially continued to show all services as operational. By 1:40pm on 24 July, AWS said restored network routes were reducing errors and timeouts, with full recovery expected shortly; PSN functions were beginning to return, although the Store and some other features remained unavailable for some users.

  • PSN outage disrupted online features and digital game access.
  • AWS issues appear to be the likely cause.
  • Services were gradually recovering worldwide.
