13 years on, unfinishable survival game Project Zomboid is getting a major update with an expanded Kentucky map, animal husbandry, and revised crafting
Project Zomboid will receive its major Build 42 update on 29 July, expanding the long-running early-access survival game with new systems and areas. The update matters because it is described by developer The Indie Stone as one of the broadest in the game’s 13-year development, bringing substantial changes to how players survive, build and explore.
Build 42 has been in development for two years and introduces animal husbandry, revised crafting and construction, expanded Kentucky locations, additional lore, improved lighting, and a refreshed interface. Existing Build 41 saves will not work with the new version; players wishing to continue those saves must opt into the “legacy41” beta branch.
- Project Zomboid’s Build 42 launches on 29 July.
- It adds animal husbandry, broader crafting and expanded areas.
- Existing Build 41 saves are incompatible with the update.
