Lucasfilm has announced two new Star Wars comic series linked to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, expanding an era already explored through Andor and related books. One series will examine the origins of Chirrut Îmwe and Baze Malbus, while the other centres on Darth Vader during the Rebellion’s mission to obtain the Death Star plans. The projects matter because they add backstory to prominent Rogue One characters and further connect the film’s events with the wider Star Wars franchise.

The Chirrut and Baze comic will explore how the pair met and Chirrut’s relationship with the Force, following their introduction on Jedha in the 2016 film. The second series is being created by Jody Houser and Emilio Laiso and will focus on tension between Vader and Death Star director Orson Krennic. Lucasfilm revealed both titles at San Diego Comic-Con, although the article does not give release dates.
