President Donald Trump said the United States would not proceed with a civilian nuclear agreement with Saudi Arabia unless Riyadh joins the Abraham Accords, the regional normalisation agreements involving Israel and several Arab states. The position links Saudi nuclear co-operation to a broader diplomatic effort to strengthen Israel’s ties with neighbouring countries and reshape Middle East alliances.

Trump made the comments on Friday, saying Saudi Arabia “have to be a member” of the accords before a deal could move ahead. A potential US–Saudi nuclear pact has drawn scrutiny because of concerns over nuclear proliferation and the strategic consequences of expanding nuclear capabilities in the Middle East.
