OpenAI has released Micro, a $230 programmable keypad made with keyboard designer Work Louder to control ChatGPT and its Codex coding tool. The reviewer found it enjoyable once configured, particularly for switching between projects and using voice dictation, but says its specialised purpose and learning curve may make it confusing or unnecessary for most people.

The compact device has six customisable “agent” keys, six command keys, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, and colour indicators showing an agent’s status. It arrives as OpenAI faces legal action from Apple over alleged trade theft and reports of wider hardware ambitions; early reactions from some coding enthusiasts have been sharply negative, with critics questioning its price against cheaper alternatives.
