Sean McCann – brother of Madeleine – to swim at Commonwealths

BBC Sport · 4 hours ago

Sean McCann, the younger brother of Madeleine McCann, will represent Scotland in the 400m, 800m and 1,500m freestyle at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The 21-year-old’s first senior major championships is significant personally and professionally, particularly as it is a home Games with family attending and follows his childhood visit to the 2014 event.

McCann, a chemical engineering student at Loughborough University, qualifies for Scotland through his father, Gerry, despite growing up in England. He placed third in the 800m and fourth in the 1,500m at this year’s British Championships, previously competed at the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2023, and will begin with the 400m heats at Tollcross Swimming Centre on Saturday.

  • Sean McCann makes his senior Commonwealth Games debut for Scotland.
  • He will contest three long-distance freestyle events in Glasgow.
  • McCann says he feels little pressure as an underdog.
