Hawaii’s Democratic lieutenant governor indicted in state corruption investigation

Fox News · 3 hours ago

Hawaii Lieutenant Governor Sylvia Luke, a Democrat, has been indicted on bribery, conspiracy and campaign-reporting charges in a state public-corruption investigation. The case is significant because she is the highest-ranking state elected official indicted in such a case in Hawaii, and Governor Josh Green has said she should consider resigning; the allegations remain unproven and she is presumed innocent.

An Oahu grand jury issued a 12-count indictment against Luke and four others, including businessman and lobbyist Tobi Solidum, in connection with funding for COVID-19 community testing. Prosecutors allege Luke accepted $10,000 and agreed to accept up to $70,000 in campaign contributions in return for using her position to support testing funding; she has been on unpaid leave since April, and her bail was set at $80,000.
