AMC’s Dark Winds has completed filming for its fifth season, with Jessica Matten saying producers described her work as a career-high performance. The actor, who plays Navajo Tribal Police officer Bernadette “Bernie” Manuelito, said the role affected her more personally than usual, suggesting an emotionally demanding storyline ahead.

Matten revealed filming wrapped in June 2026, but did not disclose plot details. The 1970s-set neo-noir series, based on Tony Hillerman’s novels, follows officers Joe Leaphorn, Bernie Manuelito and Jim Chee; its fifth season is due to premiere on AMC in 2027. Matten also highlighted the show’s importance as a prominent international platform for Indigenous actors and creators.
