Marvel Studios has confirmed that a film based on the cosmic superhero Nova is in development, though the announcement came only after the studio's Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con had ended. During the panel itself, Marvel president Kevin Feige unveiled Ghost Rider, Black Panther 3 and updates on Avengers: Doomsday, but made no mention of Nova despite earlier reports suggesting a project was in the works, prompting Feige to confirm it directly in a post-panel interview.

Asked about the project by journalist Brandon Davis, Feige jokingly confirmed "it's a movie" after being told Marvel had officially said "not a damn thing" about it, marking the first formal acknowledgement of the project. Reports earlier this month named Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron as the screenwriter, after an earlier Disney Plus series version of Nova was scrapped. The character is traditionally Richard Rider of the Nova Corps, previously seen in Guardians of the Galaxy. With Avengers: Secret Wars, Ghost Rider and Black Panther 3 all due first, a Nova film is unlikely to arrive before 2029.
