5 Years Later, Tom Hanks’ Sci-Fi Gem Is Officially a Global Streaming Smash

Collider · 3 hours ago

Tom Hanks' 2021 sci-fi film Finch has re-entered Apple TV's top 10 charts in more than ten countries five years after its release, marking a resurgence for a film originally seen as a modest streaming release. The renewed interest comes amid a strong 2026 for Hanks, who has also reprised Woody in Toy Story 5, narrated the docuseries World War II with Tom Hanks, and is currently filming a sequel to his earlier Apple TV film Greyhound.

Finch, directed by Miguel Sapochnik and written by Ivor Powell and Craig Luck, premiered straight to Apple TV in 2021 without a theatrical release, a year after Hanks' World War II drama Greyhound debuted on the same platform. The film, often compared in tone to The Last of Us but set in a more distant future, has become one of Apple TV's most enduring titles. No release date has yet been confirmed for the Greyhound sequel, though production is ongoing throughout 2026.
