Hit isekai anime is changing production studio again ahead of season 4’s confirmed release

Polygon · 5 hours ago

KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World, one of the anime shows credited with popularising the isekai genre, will return for a fourth season in 2027, its official website confirmed on 26 July. Alongside the release date, producers revealed that the series is switching production studios yet again, moving from Studio Drive, which handled season three, to Studio ENGI. This will make ENGI the fourth studio to work on the franchise, continuing KonoSuba's unusual history of shifting production houses between instalments.

The change follows Studio Deen's work on the first two seasons and J.C. Staff's animation of the spin-off film Legend of Crimson. The switch is thought to be linked to ENGI's ownership by Kadokawa, the publisher that holds the KonoSuba IP and is reportedly expanding its in-house production capabilities. ENGI is a relatively new studio for which KonoSuba represents its biggest project to date, though continuity is offered by the return of Takaomi Kanasaki, who directed the first season and also worked on Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, as director for season four.

  • KonoSuba season 4 confirmed for 2027 release.
  • Production moves to new studio, ENGI, its fourth studio overall.
  • Original season one director Takaomi Kanasaki returns for season 4.
