French Montana has settled a lawsuit accusing him of stealing a Swiss watch worth more than $1 million, ending a dispute that had drawn attention for its unusual details involving fake watches and celebrity fashion events. The rapper, whose real name is Karim Kharbouch, was sued last year by Swiss businessmen Justo Obiang and Samir Gato, who alleged he borrowed their Richard Mille RM-59-01 watch and never gave it back, leaving them instead with a counterfeit timepiece.

According to the October lawsuit, Obiang and Gato met French Montana in 2015 and later lent him the watch in early 2025 so he could wear it to Paris Fashion Week, after he offered a "diamond-encrusted" Mille of his own as collateral. When he failed to return it, they discovered his collateral watch was fake and accused him of conversion, fraudulent misrepresentation, unjust enrichment and replevin. In a court filing on Monday 27 July, lawyers for both sides said the matter had been "resolved", though the settlement terms were not disclosed and the filing stated it was not an admission of liability by any party.
