Speaking at San Diego Comic-Con in an interview with Collider, Yost explained that the show's complex, mystery-driven structure requires the writers' room to work well in advance of filming, allowing him to brief cast members on future storylines before scripts are even written. This level of advance planning is unusual for television and reflects the meticulous long-term plotting needed to sustain a serialised mystery across multiple seasons.

Yost specifically recalled pitching Ferguson the plot of Season 2 while still filming Season 1, describing how he watched her reaction as the reveals landed. He said sharing this roadmap with actors in advance has been a deliberate and rewarding part of his working process, crediting it with the cast's trust in the writing team. According to Yost, this transparency meant the production received virtually no notes or questions from actors about their scenes, as the cast understood exactly where their characters were headed.
