A Malibu jury has been told that Fraser Bohm, the son of wealthy parents, has failed in his attempt to have murder charges thrown out after he ploughed his BMW into a group of four Pepperdine University students at 104mph, killing them all. The case has drawn attention both for the scale of the tragedy and for accusations that Bohm's privileged background influenced his conduct before and after the crash, with prosecutors pressing ahead with the most serious charges despite defence efforts to have them reduced or dismissed.

The four victims were female students at Pepperdine University, struck while Bohm was driving at more than triple typical residential speed limits through Malibu. His legal team sought to have the murder counts dismissed, but the bid was rejected, meaning he continues to face trial on the more serious charges rather than lesser offences such as manslaughter.
