Tony Award-winning actor Reed Birney has joined the cast of Limbo, U.S.A., an English and Turkish-language LGBT romantic drama that marks the English-language feature debut of Turkish star Sercan Badur. The film, directed by Can Merdan Doğan from a script by David Beck and Ezgi Cohen, tells the story of a celebrated Turkish television star who moves to New York and falls in love with a male kindergarten teacher, forcing him to weigh the family and career he left behind against a future he is finally ready to embrace.

Birney will play John Russell, the compassionate father of Adam (played by co-writer Beck), who becomes a source of guidance for Badur's character as he grapples with love, faith and identity. Badur is known for Turkish hits including War of the Roses and Time Goes By, while Birney's credits span The Humans on Broadway, The Handmaid's Tale and Succession. The film is produced by Catriona Rubenis-Stevens, Beck and Cohen, with principal photography set to begin in May 2027 across New York City, New Jersey and Istanbul, followed by post-production in Germany.
