Ariana Grande has filed a lawsuit against unnamed hackers ("John Does") who she alleges repeatedly stole and leaked her unreleased music, photos and video footage by breaking into the devices and accounts of her producers and photographers. The suit, filed on Monday 27 July, highlights a broader problem of persistent hacking targeting high-profile musicians, with Grande's lawyers describing the breaches as an "unlawful and egregious" violation of the trust between the star and her fans.

According to the filing, Grande has faced hundreds of such security breaches over the past 15 years, including one incident in 2023 in which 45 of her songs were leaked at once. The lawsuit forms part of a wider round-up of music law news, which also includes a Los Angeles judge clearing D4vd to stand trial for the alleged murder of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, a court rejecting Cher's bid to reclaim $1 million in legal fees from Sonny Bono's widow, and an FTC settlement with ticket broker Elite Events over bulk-buying more than 100,000 concert tickets in violation of the BOTS Act.
