The case drew widespread attention after it emerged that senior eBay figures had orchestrated the campaign in response to unfavourable coverage, raising serious questions about corporate accountability and the lengths a major company went to in trying to silence its critics.

The Steiners, who ran an e-commerce trade newsletter, were reportedly targeted with disturbing and menacing tactics, including deliveries of unsettling items and surveillance, as part of the intimidation effort.
