Sudan's civil war, now in its third year, has become the world's largest humanitarian crisis, yet it continues to receive far less international attention than conflicts such as the war in Ukraine or tensions involving Iran. The fighting, which erupted in 2023, has triggered mass displacement and widespread hunger, with aid organisations warning that the scale of suffering is being overlooked as global focus remains fixed elsewhere.

According to the International Rescue Committee, more than 14 million people have been displaced since the conflict began, and nearly 34 million are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance, representing roughly 10% of all humanitarian need worldwide. The war has also spread instability beyond Sudan's borders, drawing in neighbouring countries and escalating into what aid groups describe as a regional crisis, with children reported to be bearing the brunt of shortages including access to clean water.
