A 25-year-old woman from Wyoming has been arrested and accused of deliberately setting fire to a Mormon church in Kaysville, Utah, the night before she was due to be married there, causing more than $108,000 (£85,000) of damage. Investigators believe Lenita "Tessa" Joy Moreno started the blaze while five other people were still inside the building, and allege she had also lied to officials about having obtained a marriage licence for the ceremony.

Fire crews were called to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building shortly after 10pm on 10 July after family members preparing for the wedding spotted flames in the Relief Society room and tried to put them out with an extinguisher and water from wedding decorations. Investigators found the fire had been started deliberately beneath a chair using unusual materials, including what appeared to be a tampon, and surveillance footage allegedly showed Moreno stealing lighters from a nearby hardware store hours earlier. She was charged on Monday with aggravated arson, retail theft and providing false information to a police officer, more than two weeks after the fire.
