The Clark Art Institute has received a major gift from the late collector Aso O. Tavitian’s foundation, adding more than 300 European artworks to its collection. The donation is significant because it expands the museum’s holdings across several key artistic periods and will be supported by a new purpose-built wing.

The collection includes works by artists such as Jan van Eyck, Bernini, Rubens, Watteau and Jacques-Louis David, spanning the Renaissance through the eighteenth century. Tavitian also provided $45 million for the collection’s care and display; the planned 15,000-square-foot extension will contain 12 galleries and is expected to open in 2028.
