Peter Jackson has confirmed that he will direct a sequel to 2011’s The Adventures of Tintin, marking his return to feature-film directing after more than a decade. The project matters because the original film was intended to begin a collaboration between Jackson and Steven Spielberg, but its planned follow-up was delayed for around 15 years.

Jackson said he and his partner Fran Walsh have completed a script, with Spielberg expected to produce after directing the first film. Jackson remains involved in Warner Bros.’ forthcoming Middle-earth film The Hunt for Gollum as a producer and co-writer, but Andy Serkis will direct that project rather than Jackson.
