Footage has emerged of Glen Hansard performing an apparently unreleased song at what was reported as his final appearance, in a Dublin pub hours before he died in a motorcycle crash. The song’s reflective, relationship-ending lyrics have drawn added attention in the aftermath of his death, while the recording offers a final glimpse of the Irish musician in an intimate setting closely connected to his early career.

Hansard performed at the Wren’s Nest in the Strawberry Beds area of Dublin, accompanying himself on acoustic guitar before another guitarist joined near the end. He had previously busked on Dublin streets, formed the Frames and the Swell Season, and won an Oscar for music written for the film Once; tributes since his death have come from Bono, Bruce Springsteen, Nels Cline and Ed Sheeran.
