Trio who stormed family-run jewellers in Ted Lasso’s up-market Richmond in £225,000 viral smash-and-grab are jailed
Three men have been jailed for a daylight armed robbery at Gregory & Co, a family-run jewellers in Richmond, south-west London, on 31 January, in which they stole items worth £225,000. Video footage of the incident, captured by witnesses and later shared widely on social media, showed staff bravely attempting to prevent the robbery as the attackers smashed windows and filled a blue bag with watches, bracelets and other items. The case exemplifies growing concerns about smash-and-grab robberies targeting retail businesses across London communities.
Deniz Mehmet (28), Lee Ramsey (46) and Robert Clarke (50), all from Essex, were arrested between March and April following an investigation by the Metropolitan Police Flying Squad involving CCTV analysis and forensic evidence. Each man pleaded guilty to conspiracy to rob and was sentenced to five years and three months at Kingston Crown Court. None of the stolen jewellery has been recovered, though the family-run business, which has operated in Richmond for over 45 years, expressed gratitude for public support following the incident.
