Marvel has reportedly cancelled a planned second season of Disney Plus series Wonder Man, only four months after confirming its renewal. The decision leaves the first season’s cliffhanger unresolved and reflects Marvel Television’s limited record of extending its live-action series beyond one season.

Variety reports that no writers’ room was formed and the show’s writers have moved to other projects. The eight-episode series, released in January, starred Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as superpowered actor Simon Williams and Ben Kingsley as Trevor Slattery; both characters may still return elsewhere in Marvel projects. Co-creator Destin Daniel Cretton is meanwhile working on Spider-Man: Brand New Day and a live-action Naruto adaptation.
