Will Smith’s Sci-Fi Western Misfire Is Making a Streaming Comeback on Paramount+
Will Smith’s 1999 sci-fi Western *Wild Wild West* will join Paramount+ on 1 August 2026, offering subscribers another Western-themed title amid the genre’s strong streaming performance. Its arrival matters chiefly because Paramount+ has become closely associated with Western programming through Taylor Sheridan’s *Yellowstone* franchise and related series.
Inspired by a 1960s television series, the film reunited Smith with *Men in Black* director Barry Sonnenfeld and co-starred Kevin Kline, Salma Hayek and Kenneth Branagh. It was widely criticised on release and performed poorly, with its legacy also linked to Smith having turned down *The Matrix* to make the film.
- *Wild Wild West* arrives on Paramount+ on 1 August.
- The film was a heavily criticised 1999 box-office disappointment.
- Paramount+ continues to lean into Western programming.
