Phillips sought to reframe the narrative surrounding Weiss's controversial tenure, arguing that criticism framing CBS News as "anti-woke" misrepresents her actual agenda of promoting editorial diversity and heterodox perspectives. He indicated his intention to interview political figures like Nigel Farage, Giorgia Meloni, and Marine Le Pen as representatives of an emerging political current, whilst emphasising his belief that journalism must prioritise substantive reporting over presenter personalities and entertainment values.
