The MCU Series You’ve Never Seen Is Officially Returning
Marvel's Runaways, the underrated Hulu series that ran from 2017 to 2019, is making a comeback in the comics with a new standalone What If issue. The announcement comes as Marvel looks to build momentum in 2026 following a mixed 2025 at the box office, with the publisher keen to remind fans of properties that may have been overshadowed by higher-profile releases like Loki.
The one-shot, written by Rainbow Rowell, is set for release on 19 August 2026 and poses the premise "What if the Runaways stayed home?" The Runaways were created by Brian K. Vaughan in 2003 and later written by Joss Whedon, Terry Moore, Kathryn Immonen and ND Stevenson, and follow a group of West Coast teenagers who become superheroes after discovering their parents belong to a villainous cult called The Pride. The Hulu adaptation starred Rhenzy Feliz, Lyrica Okano, Virginia Gardner, Ariela Barer and Gregg Sulkin.
