The novel portrays Rey's choice differently: Leia Organa had already invited her into the Skywalker family long before the film's conclusion, establishing this acceptance through years of trust and mentorship. A key scene shows the two characters repairing the Skywalker lightsaber together, with Leia affirming that the weapon and its legacy remain with Rey. This reframing shifts the narrative from Rey unilaterally claiming a name to her accepting an invitation that was already extended, emphasising themes of family connection and belonging.
