Corrosion of Conformity guitarist and vocalist Pepper Keenan has revealed that Dave Grohl personally paid for co-founding drummer Reed Mullin to attend rehab in the years before Mullin's death in 2020. Speaking on The Garza Podcast, Keenan said he had not realised at the time that 2018's "No Cross No Crown" would be the band's final album with Mullin, whose worsening health had caused him to miss numerous shows. He praised the former Nirvana drummer and Foo Fighters frontman's gesture as an act of kindness he would never forget, while reflecting fondly on Mullin's talent and influence on the crossover thrash sound.

Mullin, who formed the band in 1982 with bassist Mike Dean and guitarist Woody Weatherman, had suffered an alcohol-related seizure in June 2016 and battled health problems for years afterwards; he died in Australia while the band were on tour there. Weatherman also recently spoke about missing his old friend, noting that while recording the band's new album, "Good God / Baad Man", with drummer Stanton Moore, moments in the sessions evoked Mullin's spirit. The 14-song double album was released in April via Nuclear Blast, produced by Warren Riker.
