Hulu's untitled pilot inspired by the 1996 film "The Cable Guy" has added Rebecca Rittenhouse to its cast, joining previously announced stars Jake Johnson, Damon Wayans Jr., Natasha Rothwell and Crystal Fox. The casting news matters as another sign of Hollywood mining beloved 1990s comedies for television reinterpretations rather than straight remakes, following the model set by "Fargo".

Rittenhouse will play Robin, who has recently split from Steven (played by Wayans Jr.) and is searching for direction in her life. The series reimagines the film's premise for the streaming era, following lonely old-school cable technician Chip Douglas (Johnson) as a call to reconnect his cable sparks a friendship with childhood pal Steven that gradually curdles into obsession, exploring the darker side of modern male friendship. Johnson and Wayans Jr. also serve as executive producers, alongside Rob Rosell, Joe Piarulli and Luan Thomas as co-showrunners, with Sony Pictures Television producing.
