An inquest has heard that Alex Hughes, the 38-year-old son of Manchester United great and former Wales manager Mark Hughes, died of sudden adult death syndrome (SADS) after being found collapsed by his two young sons. Alex Hughes worked as head of player recruitment at League Two side Grimsby Town, and his death was investigated by Cheshire Coroner's Court in a hearing held in Warrington.

He was found on the floor of his bedroom at 7am on 19 June by his children, and his eldest son, 11-year-old Sebastian, attempted CPR, but Alex Hughes could not be revived. The coroner's court confirmed the cause of death as sudden adult death syndrome, a condition in which an apparently healthy person dies suddenly with no clear cause identified.
