The Locarno Film Festival presented its prestigious Honorary Leopard award to actress and filmmaker Isabella Rossellini during its opening ceremony, recognizing her career spanning decades in cinema. The recognition held special meaning for Rossellini, as her father Roberto Rossellini had received the same award for 'Germany, Year Zero' in 1948, and her brother Renzo had previously been recognized with a lifetime achievement award from the festival.

As part of the 79th edition, the festival will showcase Rossellini's documentary work exploring animal reproduction and behavior, including films such as 'Green Porno' and 'Seduce Me.' Rossellini is scheduled to participate in a public conversation about her career, which includes roles in major films like 'Blue Velvet' and 'Conclave.' The festival's opening film, 'The Green Eyes,' premiered following the ceremony and portrays a young Iraqi refugee child struggling with trauma.
