A federal judge has acknowledged that a court-issued injunction preventing the Trump administration from terminating Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian nationals has been lifted. This development follows a Supreme Court decision in Mullin v. Doe, which removed the legal barrier that had previously blocked such action. The ruling effectively opens the pathway for the administration to proceed with ending the TPS programme for this population.

Temporary Protected Status is a federal programme that provides legal residency and work authorisation to nationals of countries experiencing humanitarian crises. Hundreds of thousands of Haitian nationals have benefited from this status since it was initially granted or extended by previous administrations. The Supreme Court ruling shifts the legal landscape on immigration policy, enabling the current administration to pursue its stated goal of terminating protections for Haitian TPS holders, a decision that immigration advocates oppose but the administration characterises as part of its broader immigration enforcement priorities.
