Paul Wright's new feature film Mission, starring George MacKay and Rosy McEwen, will screen in competition at the Edinburgh Film Festival this month, with Deadline releasing an exclusive first-look clip. The project marks a reunion for Wright and MacKay, who previously collaborated on the BAFTA-nominated For Those in Peril, and represents a notable addition to Edinburgh's competition lineup as the festival positions itself as a launchpad for both emerging and established filmmakers.

The film follows Dylan, played by MacKay, as he unravels from a dead-end job and unfulfilling life, spending a week pushing boundaries and confronting existential chaos in search of meaning. Blue Finch is handling sales, with production by Linn Waite, Kate Byers, Alex Thiele, Marie-Elena Dych and Lowri Roberts, and executive producers Kristin Irving, Kiah Simpson and Kieran Hannigan; the production companies are Early Day Films, 65 Wilding and Rapt. Wright wrote and directed the film, which is set to premiere at Edinburgh on 15 August 2026.
