After a five-year hiatus, a documentary series chronicling Star Trek's history is resuming to mark the franchise's 60th anniversary milestone. The Center Seat II will explore pivotal moments in the science fiction saga's cinematic evolution, arriving at a time when no new Star Trek television series are currently in production, though several are wrapping final seasons.

The documentary will premiere on September 8 during Star Trek Day and be distributed across multiple streaming platforms. Its scope encompasses the transition between the original cast theatrical films and those centred on The Next Generation crew, including the contentious Star Trek: Generations, as well as the commercially successful rebooted continuity created by director J.J. Abrams.
