Lionsgate CEO Wants to See Paramount-Warner Bros. Merger Close Soon: ‘Uncertainty and Delay’ Are ‘Not Good for Anybody’
Lionsgate chief executive Jon Feltheimer has backed the proposed Paramount–Warner Bros. Discovery merger, urging a swift resolution because prolonged uncertainty harms the media business. He said a better-funded, more competitive Paramount and Paramount+ could create more opportunities for Lionsgate to sell programmes, licence its library and co-finance films.
The deal remains blocked by legal challenges from 12 Democratic state attorneys general and the Writers Guild of America, with an antitrust trial scheduled for March 2027 unless a settlement is reached. It cannot close until after that trial or 1 June 2027, whichever comes first, although the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority has now granted the final major regulatory approval. Lionsgate reported June-quarter revenue up 48%, while its film division earned $105 million, helped by the Michael Jackson biopic “Michael”.
- Lionsgate supports a prompt Paramount–Warner Bros. Discovery merger.
- Legal challenges could delay completion until 2027.
- Lionsgate expects a stronger Paramount to boost business opportunities.
