Netflix has confirmed that The Final Problem, a new murder-mystery series loosely inspired by Sherlock Holmes, will premiere on 25 September. The series shifts the Holmes connection to its central character: a retired actor who once portrayed the detective, rather than Sherlock himself or one of his relatives.

Set in spring 1959, the story follows Basil, played by José Coronado, after he and 12 others are stranded at a hotel on an island near Mallorca during a storm. When an English tourist’s apparent suicide is revealed to be murder, Basil becomes the most likely person to identify the killer, who must be among the isolated guests.
