‘Reacher’ Is Officially Moving Away From Its Winning Formula With Season 5’s Book
Prime Video’s Reacher has begun production on its fifth season, which will adapt Lee Child’s twentieth Jack Reacher novel, Make Me. The article argues that the choice marks a shift from the series’ established pattern, because Reacher’s investigation will not be driven by revenge for the death of a friend or relative, potentially giving Alan Ritchson’s character a darker but less personal story.
In Make Me, Reacher arrives in the small Midwestern town of Mother’s Rest, becomes suspicious of its residents’ behaviour and uncovers a disturbing mystery. The setting will continue the show’s practice of changing location each season, following Georgia, New York and Atlantic City, Maine and Philadelphia; it also remains a largely standalone adventure, despite the adaptation jumping from Season 4’s thirteenth novel, Gone Tomorrow, to the twentieth book.
- Season 5 adapts Make Me and has entered production.
- Reacher investigates wrongdoing without a personal vendetta.
- The story moves to an unsettling Midwestern small town.
