Ridley Scott's 2017 sequel Alien: Covenant has surged into the VOD top 10 on Prime Video and Google in several countries, despite lacking a US streaming home, just as the director prepares to return to sci-fi with his new film The Dog Stars. The renewed interest highlights lingering fan engagement with Scott's divisive Alien prequel series even years after its release, and comes at a moment when attention is turning back to his science-fiction work following a run of historical epics.

Alien: Covenant, which reunited Scott with Michael Fassbender following Prometheus and also starred Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup and Danny McBride, was made on a $96 million budget and grossed $240 million worldwide. Scott's most recent directorial features have been Napoleon (2023) and Gladiator II (2024), both historical epics, making The Dog Stars—now set for theatrical release on 28 August 2026 after being delayed from March—his first sci-fi film since Covenant.
