Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater has decided to step away from professional football, departing the Detroit Lions during their training camp period. The veteran was in contention for the backup quarterback position behind starter Jared Goff when he opted to leave the team.

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell announced Bridgewater's retirement to reporters on Sunday. The team subsequently placed the quarterback on the reserve/retired list ahead of their Sunday practice session, effectively ending his involvement with the franchise.
