Song, dance and bickering – curtain is due up on delightful Noel Coward double bill at Pickering’s Kirk Theatre
A theatrical co-production pairing Scarborough-based UK Foundation For Dance with Pickering Musical Society will bring two Noel Coward works to Pickering's Kirk Theatre later this month. The programme opens with a revue scripted by director Tim Tubbs celebrating the celebrated stage partnership between Coward and actress Gertrude Lawrence, featuring songs from Coward, Gershwin, Porter and other composers of the era. Tubbs and Rachel Anderson take the lead roles in this celebration of their lifelong friendship.
The evening's second half presents Coward's comedy 'Red Peppers,' originally written as a starring vehicle for Coward and Lawrence themselves. The production follows a sparring song-and-dance act performing at a failing 1930s music hall, where mishaps and backstage conflicts drive the humour. The show runs at Kirk Theatre on Friday 28 August at 7:30pm and Saturday 29 August at 2:30pm and 7:30pm, with tickets priced at £15 available through the theatre's box office and website.
