Brad Pitt has revealed he is drinking alcohol again after seven years of sobriety, telling Esquire magazine that he now drinks "in a more restrained manner" rather than abstaining completely. The disclosure marks a notable update from the actor, who had previously spoken openly about his struggles with alcohol and his recovery journey, making his current approach to moderate drinking a significant shift in his public narrative around sobriety.

The 62-year-old actor explained he had become "overconfident a couple times" before realising heavier drinking was "not good" for him, and now limits himself to a few glasses of wine rather than large quantities. Pitt had discussed his sobriety in a 2017 GQ interview and told The New York Times in 2019 that he had spent 18 months in an all-male Alcoholics Anonymous recovery group, later crediting Bradley Cooper with helping him get sober in 2020. In the same Esquire interview, Pitt also discussed reprising his Once Upon a Time in Hollywood role as stuntman Cliff Booth in a new Netflix film directed by David Fincher, due for an IMAX release on 25 November before streaming from 23 December.
